Family workationers typically travel for a month or more, opting to spend most of their time in one location. This slow traveling experience is an amazing way to spend more time together as a family. However, if you have school-aged kids they probably want to hangout with their peers, too. One way to ensure your kids meet local friends is to enroll them in an international summer camp at your new destination.

Here’s a list of 5 unique summer day camps that give kids social and educational opportunities while you’re away from home. 

  1.  Las Terrenas, Dominican Republic: Forever Wild Children’s Garden

Forever Wild is a school founded by a NY-certified teacher who puts a very personalized and nature-based twist on traditional schooling. The school is able to accommodate kids fluent in English, Spanish, French, and Creol. They offer short-term enrollment in their full time school program throughout the year for families staying at least 6-weeks. During the summer months, they typically offer various summer day camp options for kids aged 4-10. This international summer camp is a favorite among world schooling families!

Tandem International School in Madrid is an accredited institution that offers Spanish language and cultural courses for students of all ages. Every summer they offer the Summer Urban Camp which is ideal for visiting families. This summer day camp offers Spanish immersion classes, consisting of cultural tours around the city, musical classes, and sports activities. Nosara is a surfer’s paradise and is quickly becoming a favorite destination for digital nomads. This day camp offers a unique opportunity for visiting kids to spend their days exploring the natural beauty of Costa Rica. It’s typically a mix of local and visiting children and they spend their days exploring waterfalls, local farms, spelunking, surfing, and more. This international summer camp is sure to be a favorite for your nature-loving child!

  1. Pamela, Portugal: Espaco-Colibri

Pamela is a small, picturesque town only 25 miles from Lisbon, famous for its ancient castle. Espaco-Colibri is a nature-based, self-directed learning community that strives to give students the opportunity to grow in self-confidence and emotional well-being. This international summer camp is open Monday through Thursday from 9 to 5 and kids will have the opportunity to play outside while supervised. They also usually offer special workshops throughout the week focused on unique subjects like Tai Kwon do, art, music, dance, and Chinese. 

This multilingual community runs September through June.

This school offers a summer day camp and holiday camps for kids aged 4 to 14 years old where students will learn a variety of different skills from yoga to building robots.
